Job Requirements:
LANGUAGE CENTRE

The Language Centre at Universiti Brunei Darussalam is inviting applications for the above post from suitably qualified candidates with teaching and research experience on English as a Second Language (ESL) and/or English for Special Purposes (ESP) and/or English Communication Skill. Candidates should hold a Masters Degree (MA) or doctorate (PhD).

Job QUALIFICATIONS

a). Lecturer

Minimum MA/M.Ed./M.Sc. with at least 3 years relevant teaching experience in tertiary teaching and research.

b). Senior Lecturer

Normally a Ph.D. with at least 5 years relevant experience and a proven record in teaching, research and administration.

c). Associate Professor

Candidates should already be holding the post of Senior Lecturer with at least 5 years relevant experience and a proven record in teaching, research and administration.

d). Professor

Candidates should have extensive relevant teaching experience and outstanding academic record of research and publication and an established international reputation.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE

1. The appointment will be on a permanent basis for citizens of Brunei Darussalam. For non-citizens, appointment will be by contract for a period of three years which is renewable subject to mutual agreement.

2. The annual salary range as follows:-
Lecturer : B$ 37,320- B$ 56,880
Senior Lecturer : B$ 62,400- B$ 69,600
Associate Professor : B$ 74,400
Professor : B$ 82,800

3. a) Bonus [1 month salary for Lecturer/Senior Lecturer, ½ month salary for Associate Professor/Professor] after each 12 months of satisfactory service.
b) Gratuity [25% of last drawn salary x 36 months at the end of the contract].

4. Other benefits:
a) Education allowance and children’s passage.
b) Subsidized housing [staff contribute B$130 per month].
c) Free medical and dental services at government hospitals.
d) Interest- free car loan.
e) Annual leave of 48 days.
f) Passage and removal allowance.
g) At present there is no personal income tax in Brunei Darussalam

5. The appointee will contribute to the University and Faculty’s research activities through available public and private funding, including start-up grants for all new staff.
